Moldova Emigration is one of the most serious threats to a healthy economy in developing nations. Families are disrupted. Unemployment grows. Quality of life suffers. Governments rank emigration among their most serious challenges. The president of the Moldova Baptist Union recently said “We baptize about 1,000 people yearly, but lose 500 to emigration.”
This has been the situation in Moldova since the collapse of the Soviet Union. More than a million people have left—20% of the population. CAMED, the Christian Agency for Micro Enterprise Development, was created within the Baptist Union to provide training and funding for Moldovan entrepreneurs who will stay in the country and help rebuild it.
